Where Can I Serve?

Jesus told us, his disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of Courtland Baptist Church is our mission. It begins in our own community and spreads around the world. Courtland Baptist members are involved in a variety of ministries from the service of our own members to mission work in the community, the country, and abroad.
Mission

Mission Outreach

Our church is active in supporting missionaries around the world with both financial backing and prayers.   As part of the Southern Baptist convention, we help support more than 6,000 missionaries at home and in more than 125 different countries.  We have had teams that traveled to Peru, other states, and worked on various projects in Virginia and our own community.  We encourage all of our people to respond to God’s call for laborers whenever and wherever and to be faithful in missionary work.  There are several mission groups within our church that not only are involved in hands on missions year round but also raise thousands of dollars each year to support mission causes.

Bible Teaching

The Bible is our source and guide.  God reveals Himself and His plan for us through His word.  He teaches us how we should live and relate to others.   Our focus is teaching Biblical truth.  Bible study groups are available for all ages, from pre-school to our senior members.  In all of our classes, we teach the Word of God.  Additional Bible study opportunities are available some Sunday and Wednesday evenings.

Worship

God-honoring worship is our desire at Courtland Baptist Church. Two worship styles are offered: Contemporary Praise and Worship and Traditional Worship.  Both services provide the same message from God’s word that speaks to the needs of people and supplies Biblical answers to everyday problems.  Words of encouragement and prayer, scripture readings, time for greeting and fellowship, and praise through song are a part of each service.  We occasionally use media to enhance and bring the message to life.

Contemporary Praise and Worship begins at 8:30 AM Sunday mornings.  An energetic and enthusiastic Praise and Worship Band and Praise Team lead this early morning worship service!  Worshipers of all ages join to celebrate the glory and greatness of God and honor Him as our Lord and Savior.  Dress is casual and we welcome all to join with us to worship, sing, and hear God’s word.

Traditional Worship begins at 11:00.  A traditionally robed choir leads this service with accompaniment from a pianist/ organist.  The more sedate setting is comforting to those who prefer a more traditional style.  The congregation is friendly and will go out of their way to welcome you!

Youth and Children

Our youth and children’s ministries offer a variety of opportunities including a youth praise band, a youth group, mission activities, vacation Bible school, Christian camps, and social events.  They work together on projects, help lead worship, and help with a variety of ministries.  They are a vital, contributing part of our church family.

Serving

We encourage each of our members to be involved in ministry.  We believe we are “saved to serve’.  God has given each of us special talents and abilities.  Members may serve on various committees, participate in the music ministry as a vocalist or musician, help with infants, children, or young adults, teach Bible study classes, provide food for the needy, and in many other areas.  You can find any number of ways to serve in God’s Kingdom through our church!
